Youth Programs- Young Artists
The Westmoreland Choral Society is firmly committed to supporting and encouraging the next generation of choral singers and audiences. In addition to discounted tickets to all concerts for students, the Society has several programs designed to implement this portion of our Mission Statement.
Huls/Highberger Scholarship Fund
This scholarship is awarded annually to one or more music students enrolled in college in Westmoreland County. Recipients receive scholarship assistance with their college expenses and in return are expected to sing with the Society during its regular season.
Young Vocal Artist Competition
Each spring, the Society invites local high school students to audition for our Young Vocal Artist Competition. The students audition with either a classical or musical theater piece for a panel of judges and the top winners sing with the WCS in our annual Spring Pops Concert. Each winner receives a monetary award to continue their musical studies.
Westmoreland Children’s Chorus
This long-time program of the Westmoreland Choral Society will be restarting in the 2011-2012 season. Open to elementary and middle school students, the WCC offers the opportunity for young voices to experience singing challenging music in a large group under the direction of an experienced music professional. The WCC traditionally sings at the Christmas and Pops Concerts.
